Goal Mile
Carrick AC would like to thank all who came to Ormonde Castle on Christmas morning for the sixth Goal Mile in Carrick-on-Suir. Once again the event was a huge success with a total of €5,000 raised for this most worthy cause. Thanks to all who contributed so generously and especially to Mags Power and her team of helpers who collected in the town on the Saturday before Christmas.
Fit-4-Life
Carrick AC's annual Fit-4-Life programme will commence on this Tuesday, 8th January at Kildalton College, Piltown. Each week's training session will start at 7pm and runners of all levels from complete beginners to experienced athletes will be catered for. James Sullivan, personal trainer and sports injury therapist, will be on hand to provide useful tips and advice for every runner. This is an ideal opportunity to make a start on improving your level of fitness and building on that New Year's resolution or simply taking some time off your personal best performances. Over the past few years we have seen many beginners use this programme as a foundation for completing their very first road races over 5k and 5 miles. All are welcome to participate and the emphasis is on enjoying the benefits of running.
Baldy Man Race
The annual Baldy Man race took place in Tramore over the Christmas period and there was a great win for Carrick AC's Martina O' Dwyer in the ladies' race. Martina finished the tough course over the sand in a time of 36:51 ahead of Ferrybank runner, Orna Murray, who clocked 37:22. The men's race was won by Shane Maher (Ferrybank) in 31:30. Patrick Roche was Carrick AC's first finisher in fourth place with a very good time of 33:11. Tommy Falconer was ninth in 34:53 and Gordon Collins clocked a time of 43:24 for this very demanding event. Well done to all our runners.
Tony O' Connell Clonmel 4-miles
The Tony O' Connell Race over four miles has become one of the most popular races on the calendar and St. Stephen's Day saw another great turnout for this Clonmel AC-organised event. The race was won in a time of 19:17 by Sergiu Ciobanu (Clonliffe Harriers). Carrick AC runners who took part were : Andrew Downey (24:19), Michael Freaney (28:02), Matt Greene (29:22) and Ann Cronin (32:08).
