Josephine Takes Winter League Title
The 2012 SuperValu Winter League came to an exciting conclusion on Tuesday evening last with the tenth and final run of the league in Kildalton College, Piltown. When all the points were totted up it was the long-time leader, Josephine O' Dwyer, who emerged with the lowest total - 163 points. Josephine has been running consistently well since the start of the league and showed steady improvement in her 5km times over the ten weeks. Josephine ran on all ten evenings and, having recorded a time of 28:43 on week one, went on to run her best time of 22:50 last Tuesday. Almost six minutes of an improvement is a great achievement and all in the club congratulate Josephine. In second place came Aine Knox on 180 points. Aine's time for the 5k came from 36:07 right down to 29:22 over the course of the league. Corwun O' Brien was just one point behind Aine in third place. The top ten finishers in this year's league were :

The prizes for this year's league were presented by PJ Guinan, representing SuperValu, Carrick-on-Suir at the club's Christmas party in the Carraig Hotel on Saturday night last. Carrick Roadrunners would like to thank SuperValu for their long-standing and generous sponsorship of this very popular league. We are also very grateful to Kildalton College, Piltown for the continued use of their grounds and facilities. Finally, a very big thank-you to all who assisted with registration, timing and stewarding during the league.
Club Person of the Year- Patrick Roche
The Club Person of the Year for 2012 was also announced at Saturday evening's prize-giving and the very worthy recipient was Patrick Roche. Patrick has shown admirable dedication to running over the past year and put in some fine performances. These included a third-place finish in the County Tipperary Novice 'B' road championships (helping to secure team gold for Carrick AC) and a brilliant victory in the county Novice 'B' Cross-Country championships. Quite apart from his excellent running form, Patrick has proved to be a most helpful and hard-working club member, never found wanting when it comes to stewarding or volunteering for duty at club events such as our recent flag day. Patrick has become a club committee member for 2013 and no doubt will continue to give generously of his time to the club. All in the club extend heartiest congratulations to Patrick.
Goal Mile
Don't forget the annual Goal Mile in Carrick-on-Suir on Christmas morning at 11am. The mile will start at Ormonde Castle and follow the usual route along Main Street and the Quay. There will be a collection in aid of Goal in Carrick on Saturday, December 22nd and your support would be greatly appreciated. All-Ireland Novice Cross-Country
Carrick AC's Martina O' Dwyer competed in the All-Ireland Novice Cross-Country Championships in Adamstown, Co. Wexford on Sunday week last. Finishing in sixth position overall, Martina led the Tipperary team to silver medals in the Inter-County competition. The other Tipperary team members were Dymphna Ryan (Dundrum), Marie Fitzgibbons (Thurles Crokes) and Catherine Rice (Clonmel).
County Senior Cross-Country
Claire Annan put in a very strong run to take second place in the County Tipperary Senior Cross-Country Championships on Sunday. Patrick Roche finished ninth in the senior men's race. As complete results are not yet to hand a full report will be included in next week's notes.
'Turkey Trot' in Piltown
The first ever 'Turkey Trot' organised by Piltown GAA Club took place on Sunday last. Tommy Falconer came home in third place behind Sandis Bralitis and Paul Moran in the 10k. Martina O' Dwyer was first home in the ladies' race. In the 5k event, Brendan Cronin was first over the line and Emer O' Brien and Josephine O' Dwyer were the first two ladies to finish.
