INTERNATIONAL ATHLETES TO FORE AT MORRIS OIL PILTOWN 10k
Piltown was the venue on Friday evening last for the third race in this year's Outfield Sports/Asics Three Counties Challenge - the Morris Oil 10k.This race continued the trend of increased participation in the series as 166 runners lined up for the start in Kildalton College.There was an international flavour to proceedings as Sergiu Ciobanu from Moldova took the men's race in a time of 30:33. This was 20 seconds faster than Sergiu's winning time last year. Second place went to Philip Harty of West Waterford AC (32:34) while Dwane Farrell of Tinryland AC was third (33:40).
The ladies' race was won by Pauline Lambe (Tullamore Harrirs) in a time of 36:56.In second place, all the way from California, was Nicole Campbell (37:28) while third place went to Corrina Walsh from West Waterford AC (38:58).
Our first Carrick Roadrunner home was Brian Murphy who had a fantastic run to finish fifth overall (34:25) on his debut run for the club. Martina O' Dwyer was our first lady finisher and she combined with Jacqui Power and Elaine Walsh to win the ladies' team prize.We would like to thank Morris Oil for their continued sponsorship of this very popular race. We are also very grateful to Piltown GAA Club and Kildalton College for their assistance and the use of their facilities.Finally, a word of thanks to all who helped with organising the race and providing refreshments- well done everybody!
The fourth and final race in the series will be the Carraig Hotel 'Deadman's 5' in Carrick-on-Suir on Friday,August 7th at 7:30pm.
