Outfield Sports 3-Counties Challenge 2015

The ninth Outfield Sports 3-Counties Challenge will get underway on Friday, April 24th, with the Bobby Fitzgerald Accounting Faugheen 5k. The five-race series has gone from strength to strength over the years and the Faugheen race , now in its third year, has quickly established itself as one of the fastest 5k routes on the road racing circuit. Runners should note that this year's race  will start at the earlier time of 7pm and race registration will close at 6:50pm.

The second race of the series steps up in distance with the very popular O' Neill Pharmacy Tom Jordan Memorial 5-mile race in Portlaw on Friday, 8th May at 7:30pm. The new route used for the first time last year should again see many runners achieve a PB time for the distance. All proceeds from this race will go to Portlaw Red Cross.

The Deadman's 5-mile race in Carrick-on-Suir on Friday, 5th June at 7:30pm forms the third leg of our summer series. The race will start as usual outside the historic Ormonde Castle in the town and takes in a scenic route which includes the famous Deadman's Boreen before finishing with a really flat ,fast final mile to the Town Park.

For its penultimate race, the series moves to County Waterford for the AutoPower Rathgormack 5-mile race on Friday 10th July at 7:30pm. This race provides breath-taking scenery with the Comeragh Mountains as the background to the beautiful, picturesque village. Runners are in for a treat with the superb home cooking provided in the Hiking Centre after the race.

For the series' finale, we move to Piltown in County Kilkenny for the annual MorrisOil 10k on Friday, 31st July at 7:30pm. This will be the eighth edition of this race and the course has met with the approval of all runners as it takes in the grounds of Kildalton Horticultural College and some quiet country roads before finishing in Piltown GAA Club grounds.

The club is delighted to welcome back all of our sponsors and we are particularly happy to welcome US-based running brand, New Balance ,as title sponsors for the first time. The prize fund for the series will be in excess of €6,000 and each race will have prizes in all of the usual age categories as well as a team prize. There will be an overall series prize of €150 for both for Men and Ladies with four races to count.
A great new addition will be a prize of a Men's and Ladies' pair of New Balance running shoes (value €130) to be raffled at each race among all non-prizewinning participants, courtesy of series sponsor, Outfield Sports. Finally, all who complete four races in the series will receive a €25 voucher towards New Balance running shoes at Outfield Sports. All race entries on the night will be €10 but you can save 20% by signing up for the full series for just €40 at the first race in Faugheen.
Progressing from 5k to 10k over the summer months, the 3-Counties Challenge is ideal for those who are new to running and also provides a good test for more experienced runners. All five races are fully AAI-permitted and run on accurately-measured courses.
