Marine Climb

The annual Marine Climb '6' got the West Waterford summer series of road races underway recently and there was a very good turnout as usual for this challenging event. The men's race was won by Raivis Zakis from the West Waterford club in a time of 33:31 ahead of Niall Sheils (St. Killians) and Shane Mullaney (Thurles Crokes). Angela McCann from Clonmel AC won the ladies' race in a time of 37:50 with Corinna Walsh (West Waterford) in second and Diane Behan (Waterford AC) in third.  Carrick AC's Teresa Cunningham had a great run to finish in 46:18 and was the fourth lady to finish, also taking the O/40 first prize. Geraldine Houlihan also ran very well to finish in 52:39. Three Carrick AC runners took part in the men's race and it was Patrick Roche who was our first finisher in seventh place . Patrick put in a storming run to finish in 36:28.  Tommy Falconer oalso ran a great race to finish in 37:25 and Alan Treacy clocked 49:38.  Well done to all our runners.
Butlerstown 10K
Two hundred runners lined up for the annual Butlerstown 10K on Friday evening last.  Philip Harty (Donore) took the men's event in a fast time of 31:37.  Frank Quinlan and Sean Stilwell were second and third respectively.  Angela McCann (Clonmel AC) continued in superb form when taking the ladies' race in 36:44.  Meadbh Savage (Tramore) was second in 42:16, just ahead of Laura Flavin (West Waterford AC) in 42:18. Carrick AC was well represented on the night and our first finisher was Michael Murphy in 38:00.  James Fox was next home in 39:21, while Seamus Ward (43:36) and Sean O'Donovan (46:22) were our other representaives in the mens' race.  Our first lady to finish was Teresa Cunningham (44:12) and Teresa took the over 40 first prize for the second consecutive week.  Emer O'Brien came home in a time of 46:51, Geraldine Houlihan clocked 49:48 while there were also good runs from Catherine O'Donovan and Melanie Ward.
County Tipperary Senior Road Races
The Tipperary Senior road races for men and ladies were held in Two-Mile-Borris on Sunday last.  Carrick AC had just three representatives on the day.  Martina O'Dwyer put in a superb performance to finish a very close up second in the ladies event just behind Angela McCann from Clonmel AC.  This silver medal - winning run was a fantastic achievement by Martina and reflects the hard training she has been undertaking over the past number of months. There were two Carrick AC runners in the men's race.  Patrick Roche finished in fourteenth place while Tommy Falconer was sixteenth.  Well done to all three runners.
Fit-4-Life
The Fit-4-Life programme continues every Tuesday evening at 7p.m.  This Tuesday (April 24th) the groups will meet in Ballyneale to sample the course which will be used for the upcoming Champion Kiely 5K race.  For the following two Tuesdays the groups will meet at the Library carpark in Carrick-on-Suir and will run the route which will be used for this year's Deadman's 5-mile race.
Portlaw 5-mile Road Race
Preparations are well under way for the Tom Jordan Memorial 5-mile road race in Portlaw on the evening of Friday May 11th.  Brian Nugent and his team have been busily preparing for this very popular event which is run over a fast, flat course.  Further details over the coming weeks.
