Martina Wins Masters Title

Martina O' Dwyer continued her great form on the road with a superb victory in the County Tipperary Masters Road Championship held in Coolquill/Ballingarry on April 28th. The ladies' and men's races were both over an out-and-back course of 6km.Martina showed all of her battling qualities to reel in the leader, Angela McCann (Clonmel AC), in the final 300m and take the gold medal in a very fast time of 21:33. Ann Cronin was our only other representative in the ladies' event and finished third in the O/45 category with a time of 28:59. In the men's race Brendan Cronin ran an excellent time of 21:58 to take third place in the O/50 category. Well done to all three runners.
 
 
Waterford-Tramore Road Race
 
On Saturday evening last over 300 runners took part in the annual Waterford to Tramore race over  a distance of 7.5 miles. Frank Quinlan (Waterford AC) won the men's race in 40:24 while Jackie Carty (Kilmore AC) took the ladies' first prize in 45:18. Carrick AC's first finisher was Michael Murphy in 45:32 with Keith Barry next in 48:31. Seamus Ward (50:55)was our next man home with Alan Treacy breaking the one-hour barrier when clocking 59:39. Ger Houlihan (60:45), Catherine O' Donovan (63:52) and Claire Howlin (69:31) all had very good runs in the ladies' race. Well done to all our runners.
 
Limerick Marathon
The club was represented in the Limerick marathon (Great Limerick Run) last Sunday by Mark Connolly who completed the 26 miles in an excellent 3 hours and 21 minutes.
 
Portlaw 5-mile race this Friday
 
The annual Tom Jordan Memorial 5-mile road race will take place this Friday, May 11th, at 7:30pm.Registration  from 6:15pm will be at the Resource Centre, The Square, Portlaw and entry costs €10 for adults and €5 for juniors.The start time for walkers is 6:30pm.There will be prizes for the top five male and female finishers as well as all the usual prizes for the various age categories. There will also be a cash bonus for the first person to break 24:30 (men) or 28:30 (ladies).
Showers and changing facilities will be provided while prize-giving and refreshments will be in the Forge Inn afterwards. The race is run over an accurately-measured, flat course and is suitable for all levels of runners, joggers and walkers.For further information contact Brian Nugent (087-6128451)
 
Fit-4-Life on the move !    
 
The club's Fit-4-Life programme is once again proving very popular with runners of all levels and is taking in a variety of routes over the coming weeks. The starting time every week is 7 pm and the schedule for the coming weeks is as follows:
 
Tues. 8th May : Deadman's 5 route -  Meet at library car-park
Tues. 15th May : Rathgormack 5 route - meet at Hiking Centre, rathgormack
Tues. 22nd May : Piltown, meet at Kildalton College
Tues. 29th May : Portlaw Woods
 
Remember that all are welcome and the emphasis is on enjoying the run!
