Dublin City Marathon

The 32nd Dublin City Marathon, incorporating the National Marathon Championships, was held on Bank Holiday Monday last and saw a turnout of 13,000 runners.  It was Kenyan Geoffrey Ndungu who led the way home in a new course record time of 2:08:33.  Sean Connolly (Tallaght) was the first Irishman to finish (2:18:52).  The ladies' race was won by Helalia Johannes from Namibia in a time of 2:30:35.  Linda Byrne became Irish Ladies Champion and also qualified for the London Olympics with her time of 2:36:21.

Carrick AC's first finisher ion the day was David Waters (3:00:07) which was a fantastic run in less than ideal conditions.  Michael O'Connell was our next finisher in 3:12:17, an excellent time that reflect the huge improvement shown by Michael throughout the year.  Johnny Brunnock, one of our more experienced marathon runners, finished in a time of 3:13:26 with David Foley only just behind in 3:13:59.  Andrew Downey once again ran a really solid race to finish in 3:15:17.  Well done to all our runners who can now enjoy a well earned rest.

Supervalu Winter League

The Supervalu Winter League continues every Tuesday evening in Kildalton College, Piltown with a 7.00p.m. sharp starting time for the first group.  At this stage runners have been assigned their handicap times and many are already showing significant improvements.  Remember, you can still register for this year's league on any Tuesday from 6.30p.m., so don't worry if you have missed the first couple of weeks.  Runners must wear a high-viz vest every week as well as the number given to them at registration.

We are also looking for people to give up one of their weeks to help steward the race. We need 5-6 stewards each Tuesday night to keep the league going. You will not be penalised in the overall league for giving up one of your nights. Please sign up for a night at registration.
