Moran Cup

There was a small field of just six runners for the prestigious Moran Cup One-Mile race at Faugheen Field Day on Sunday last.  Two former winners of this event, Pierce Coyle and Tommy Falconer, lined up along with the in-form Patrick Roche.  It was Patrick who cut out the running from the start with Tommy in second and Jamie Kennedy and Pierce Coyle in third and fourth.  With one lap remaining, Patrick still held the lead as Pierce moved smoothly into second place, a gap developing to Jamie and then Tommy.  It looked as if Pierce was just biding his time to sprint past Patrick, but it really turned into a tremendous battle over the last 100 metres.  Pierce just edged half a stride ahead right at the line to take the narrowest of victories over Patrick and regain the Moran Cup.  Their times were 5:11 and 5:12 respectively.  Jamie Kennedy finished third in 5:27 ahead of Tommy Falconer in 5:36.  In fifth and sixth places were John Cunningham in 5:51 and Gordon Collins in 6:38.

Kilkenny Half-Marathon and 10K

The Kilkenny half-marathon and 10K races were held in very windy conditions on Sunday morning last and five Carrick AC runners took part.  Tommy Falconer finished seventh in the 10K event while Martina O'Dwyer was the second lady home in the half-marathon with a time of 1:27:38.  Anthony Grace came home in a time of 1:32.  Mark Connolly clocked a time of 1:38 and Andrew O'Meara finished in 1:39.
