National Half-Marathon

The AAI National Half-Marathon attracted a field of 690 runners from all parts of the country to Waterford on Saturday last.  The standard of running was very high this year with the top 100 finishers breaking the 80-minute barrier.  The men's race was won in fine style by Séan Hehir (Rathfarnham AC) in a time of 65:24 ahead of Brian Maher (Kilkenny City Harriers) who clocked 66:40.  The ladies' race was won by Ava Hutchinson (Dundrum South Dublin AC) in a time of 74:17.

Carrick AC were well represented on the day with ten athletes participating. Our first finisher was David Waters who came home in a time of 81:55.  David was closely followed by Tommy Falconer in 82:02.  Next home for Carrick AC was Patrick Roche in 84:53.  Our first lady finisher was Martina O'Dwyer who returned to the road running scene with a fine run of 85:14.  Tom Egan ran a personal best time of 90:21 for the half marathon distance just ahead of Anthony Grace who clocked 90:47.  Our next finisher was Seamus Ward in 91:58.  Mark Connolly came home in a time of 92:49 just ahead of David Foley in 93:06.  Theresa Cunningham had a fantastic run on her debut over this distance when she came home in 94:52.  Well done to all our runners.
