County Senior Title For Brian Murphy          
 
The Tipperary Senior Road Race Championships were held in perfect running conditions at Two Mile Borris on Sunday last.It was a very successful day for Carrick Roadrunners with Brian Murphy putting in a fantastic front-running display to win the Men's race over 10km.
Brian was to the front of the leading group from an early stage.Once the race settled down it was Brian and Christopher Bracken (Thurles Crokes) who began to pull away from the field.Brian was not interested in a sprint finish and he really increased the pace over the second 5k, opening up a gap that increased to a huge 50 seconds at the finish line.Christopher held on for second place ahead of Shane Scully (Nenagh) and Danny Smith (Ballynonty).
Brian's brother,Michael,also ran a great race to finish 11th in 35:05. Tommy Falconer continued his good run of form in finishing 17th (36:10) with David Waters hot on his heels in 19th place (36:32).Patrick Roche was 27th in 37:38 and Brendan Cronin finished in 35th place in a time of 38:45.The Carrick team's total of 48 points meant that they were only just outside the medals in fourth position behind Thurles Crokes, Nenagh and Dundrum.
The team medals may have eluded our men but this was more than made up for by our ladies' team.The ladies' race was over 5km and Claire Annan (5th) , Teresa Cunningham (10th) and Ann Cronin (12th) secured the team bronze medals with a total of 27 points.The individual gold was won by Margaret Danaher (Templemore) ahead of Angela McCann (Clonmel) and Dympna Ryan (Dundrum).Well done to all our runners.
 
Prestige Lighting Fit-for-Life 
 
The Prestige Lighting Fit-for-Life programme continues every Tuesday evening from Kildalton College,Piltown at 7pm.Many runners are using this programme to prepare for the summer's Outfield Sports Three-Counties Challenge Series.The first of the four races in this year's series will be the Carraig Hotel 'Deadman's 5 ' on June 10th.
Others are using the Fit-for-Life programme just to begin jogging and reach a basic level of fitness.No matter what your goals may be , you will be sure to find a group with which to meet 'n train each week.All are welcome to join up on any Tuesday evening.
 
Marine Climb
 
The challenging Marine Climb over 6 miles is the traditional start for the very popular series of ten races organised by the West Waterford club.On Friday evening last 177 athletes faced the starter and there were some excellent performances from Carrick athletes. First of our runners to reach the top of the hill was Patrick Roche in eighth place (37:58).David Waters came in 17th place (39:13) just ahead of Tommy Falconer in 22nd.Paddy Kerwick had a good run in 41st in a time of 42:57, while Mark Connolly was 51st in 43:26.Raymond Burke clocked 44:53 to finish 71st.Paul O' Donnell and Ann Cronin finished in 53:21 and 53:50 respectively and will be well pleased with their runs.Well done to all our runners.
 
Inter Firms League
 
The Inter Firms Road Leagues organised by Clonmel AC have seen huge turnouts of runners for the past four weeks.Some Carrick Roadrunners have been among the teams to finish in the prizes.The 'Formula 5' team of Tommy Falconer,Patrick Roche, Andrew Downey, Diane Behan and David Smyth finished second in Division One. In Division 3, Team Younique ( Catherine O' Donovan, Ann Cronin, Teresa Cunningham, Claire Annan and Nanette O' Connell ) also finished in second place.
