 County Novice Silver for Claire

The Tipperary County Novice Championship road races were held in Clonmel on Sunday last and Carrick Roadrunners had nine athletes participating. First up were the ladies with a distance of 3km to be covered.Claire Annan has been in very good form in recent weeks and she really put in a superb run here to take second place and the silver medal. This was Claire's first run in a championship race for the club and she will surely figure very prominently in many more.
Teresa Cunningham was our next finisher in 12th place- a very encouraging debut. With Maura O' Neill (18th) and Catherine O' Donovan (22nd) also running very well, our ladies' team came really close to finishing in the medals with a fourth place finish.
In the men's race, there was a large field for the 6km challenge. Our first finisher was Tommy Falconer in 7th place, with Patrick Roche in 15th place. Both have been in great form recently and look set for a good season.Next home for Carrick AC was the evergreen Brendan Cronin in 28th place followed by Andrew Downey (53rd) and, making a long awaited comeback,James Fox (54th).
Well done to all our runners who have now qualified to take part in the Novice 'B' championships in a few weeks' time.
