WIT 6k Race

There was a good turnout for the Waterford AC / WIT 6km race on Saturday last and there were nine Carrick Roadrunners in action.Our men were led home by Brian Murphy in sixth place (19:29).This was a very good performance by Brian who is returning from an injury layoff.Next home was Brian's brother,Michael, in a time of 23:43.He was closely followed by James Fox (24:33), the third of the Murphy brothers,Martin, (24:39) and Gordon Collins (25:23).
Our first lady finisher was the fast-improving Nanette O' Connell in a time of 27:25.Bernie Sexton (30:31), Maura O' Neill (30:50) and Claire Howlin (33:44) all had very encouraging runs.All four ladies are reaping the benefits of their participation in this year's Winter League and can look forward to more 'personal best' times over the comin months.Well done to all our runners.

Ballycotton '10'

The annual Ballycotton 10-mile road race took place on Sunday with another huge field of over 2,300 runners. Carrick Roadrunners were well represented on the day. First home for Carrick was Michael Murphy iin 46th plance n a great time of 56:42, followed by Tommy Falconer in 58.53, David Waters in 1:00:05, Tom Egan in 1:06:12, Mick O'Connel in 1:06:32, Raymond Bourke in 1:15:46. Martina O'Dwyer had another good run coming in 10th in the Female race (fourth in over 35 category) in 1:03.12. Well done to all.


Winter League Prize-Giving

The prizes for this year's SuperValu Winter League will be presented in the Strand Bar on this Friday,March 11th from 9pm.This is always a most enjoyable evening and all Winter League participants are invited to attend.The club would like to thank SuperValu Carrick-on-Suir for their continued sponsorship of this league which has become a well-established and very popular event in our running calendar.

Summer Series

It may seem a long way off but plans are already afoot for the 2011 Outfield Sports Three-Counties Challenge,our series of four races run in counties Tipperary,Kilkenny and Waterford during the summer months.This series has gone from strength to strength in recent years and no doubt this year will see a further increase in the numbers taking part.For the many runners who like to compete in the series, the following are the dates to pencil into your diary:
Friday,June 10th : Deadman's '5'mile in Carrick-on-Suir
Friday,July 1st : Champion Kiely 5k in Ballyneale
Friday, July 15th : Piltown 10k
Friday, August 5th : Rathgormack '5' miles
All races start at 7:30pm and there will, as usual, be a substantial prize fund with prizes on offer in many categories as well as for all who complete all four races.Watch out for further details over the coming weeks.
