The third race in this year's Outfield Sports Three-Counties Challenge will be the annual AutoPower Rathgormack 5-mile road race on this Friday, July 13th with a start time of 7:30pm. This race was won last year by Carrick AC's Brian Murphy in a time of 26:26 while Margaret Danagher (Templemore) won the ladies' race in 30:44.  Registration for this very popular race will be in the Hiking Centre, Rathgormack, from 6pm and race entry costs €10. There will be prizes in all the usual categories as well as plenty of spot prizes. Post-race refreshments and prize-giving will also be in the Hiking Centre.

There will be an opportunity for everyone to try out the race route on this Tuesday evening, July 10th, when the fit-4-life groups will meet in Rathgormack at 7pm. All are welcome to come along. Further information from Johnny (086-8483210) or James (086-2544150).

GSK 5-miles

The annual Glaxo-Smithkline 5-mile race attracted a large field of 218 runners to Dungarvan on Friday evening last and victory in the men's race went to the in-form Philip Harty (Donore Harriers) in a time of 24:52. The ladies' race was won by Angela McCann (Clonmel) in 29:23. Carrick AC's first finisher was Brendan Cronin who took second prize in the O/50 category with a very good time of 31:07. Tom Doherty has been showing great improvement of late and ran a new personal best time of 32:39. Tom has been a regular with the Tuesday evening fit-4-life group and his race times show the benefit of such regular training. Vincent Murray was our next finisher in 35:49 with Paddy Brunnock coming home in 36:59. Our only representative in the ladies' race was Ann Cronin and she enjoyed a good run also, finishing in 40:12. Well done to all our runners.
