Super Valu Winter League – Mick O’Dwyer takes the title
The Super Valu winter league finished last Tuesday 16th February. A mass start was held, Pat O Sullivan was first to finish in 17:01 and Martina O’Dwyer was the first lady finisher in 18:37. The prize giving for the 2009/2010 Super Valu Winter League was held at the Strand Bar on Friday last. The club would like to acknowledge the kind sponsorship of the league by Super Valu Carrick on Suir and the volunteers who helped in the running of the league – stewarding, timing and registration. PJ Guinan of Super Valu was there on the night present the prizes to the league winners. The overall winner was Mick O’Dwyer, a worthy winner who has improved significantly over the course of the League. Mick is new to running but already has significant achievements including a half marathon, continued success to Mick for the 2010 season.
Vinny Murray took second prize, showing consistent improvement throughout the League. Tommy Falconer, one of the clubs outstanding and dedicated members took a deserved third place. Matt Greene took fourth prize; Matt has consistently improved over the last year, progressing through the winter league Fit4Life and numerous road races. Melanie Ward was the only lady in the prize line, Melanie has worked hard since starting the Fit4Life programme last year and took a well deserved fifth place.
The other prize winners were John Dowley, Maurice Boland, Jason O’Brien, Liam Walsh, Joe Gough, Kenny Reid and Patrick Roche

Fit4Life 2010
Now the winter league is over for another year Fit4Life will kick off. Winter league members need not hang up their trainers for the summer, training runs will be held every Tuesday night at Kildalton College. Initially it will follow the Winter league course but as the evenings get longer there will be 10k training runs and speed training sessions to look forward to.
Beginners can enjoy a comfortable environment in which to start running, with coaching and advice available every week to make a start. Beginners have the opportunity to run with and meet people of the same ability and progress from walking to running over the coming months.
Fit4Life: Tuesday nights, Kildalton College, Piltown @ 7pm. Beginners welcome.

Fixtures
The club is hosting the County Intermediate Road Championships next Sunday 28th February in Ballyneal at 1pm. The course is 8K for men and 4 K for the ladies competition. A good turnout is expected from club members so if you haven’t made your 2010 racing debut, next Sunday is the day to start.
