Carrick Road Runners Athletic Club, Co. Tipperary, Ireland

Club Notes 5th July 2009

    'Mr. Binman' Champion Kiely 5k

A record entry of 208 runners gathered in Ballyneale on Friday last for the second race in this year's Outfield Sports/ Asics Three Counties Challenge. This race honours the Ballyneale-born Olympian, Tom Kiely, who won the gold medal for the Decathlon at the 1904 Olympics in St. Louis. The fast, flat course yielded many PB's, among them the race winner, Tony Fogarty (Thurles Crokes). A very close second was Dwayne Farrell (Tinryland AC) while David Ryan took third prize.
The ladies' race was won by Madeline Loughnane (Thurles Crokes) in 17:46 with Corina Walsh (West Waterford) second in 18:00 and Angela McCann (Clonmel) third in 18:28 . First Carrick Roadrunner to finish was Tommy Falconer while a large group of our lady runners were led home by Martina O' Dwyer. Martina combined with Orla Power and Jackie Power to win the ladies' team event. Mags Power had another great run to take the ladies' O/50 prize. The club would like to thank our main sponsor,'Mr.Binman' for their continued support of this race. Thanks also to Catherine O' Donovan of 'Younique' Beauty Salon and to our series sponsors,Outfield Sports and Asics. Finally, to all who helped with race organisation, registration, stewarding and results, a very big 'thank-you'.
