Carrick Road Runners Athletic Club Notes 3rd March 2008
The day has finally come when the club is delighted to announce that our men's novice B team has won gold at the county novice B championships held in Coolquill on Sunday last. The victory was made all the sweeter by the fact that the same runners had just recently been narrowly denied a bronze medal in the county novice. The patience and hard work has paid off. All at the club would like to congratulate the gold medal winning team of John O'Sullivan, Anthony Grace and Ger O'Loughlin. John who is on the form of his life at the moment was only just pipped for an individual bronze in the process. Anthony and Ger both ran a very solid race to make their placings count when the chips were down. These 3 runners were also very well supported by all of the Carick-on-Suir AC runners who made the journey and who put in some huge efforts to earn valuable points. These included Keith Barry, Tommy Falconer, Mark Connolly, James Fox and Mick O'Shea. Hearty congratulations must also go to club captain Mark Connolly and former club captain Pat O'Sullivan who have both put in a lot of work over the past 2 years and were duly rewarded last Sunday.
The race was run over a testing 5k 'out & back' course in the athletics heartland that is Coolquill. Here is how the Carrick-on-Suir AC runners finished: 4. John O'Sullivan, 5. Anthony Grace, 6. Ger O'Loughlin, 11. Keith Barry, 20. Tommy Falconer, 21. Mark Connolly, 25. James Fox, 34. Mick O'Shea. Well done, one and all. This team must now surely be strong contenders for a medal for the upcoming intermediate championships which take place in Thurles on 6th April next. Keep up the training.
