Brian Murphy wins Masters Title
Carrick AC runner, Brian Murphy, put in a brilliant performance at the All-Ireland Track and Field Masters Championships held in Tullamore on Saturday last. Brian was competing in the 5000metres along with clubmate Patrick Roche. Brian came home a very convincing winner ina time of 16:01 and Patrick was very pleased too with his ninth placing in a time of 17:14.
Boston Scientific Half-Marathon
There was a great turnout for this year's renewal of the Boston Scientific Half-Marathon in Clonmel last Sunday. In-form athlete, Ravis Zakis from West Waterford club, took the race victory with a time of 1:10:49. Michael Shannon (St. John's, Clare) was second in 1:11:01 with Carrick AC's Brian Murphy taking third place in 1:12:34, just 24 hours after his track win in Tullamore. In the ladies' race, Angela McCann from the host club led the way home in 1:21:34. Carrick AC athlete, Martina O' Dwyer, ran very well to take second place in 1:24:24 ahead of Dundrum AC's Dympna Ryan. Fit-4-Life
The meet and train groups will meet at the Sean Kelly Sports Centre on Tuesday next, August 27th , taking in the Kilonerry circuit. The Autumn One-Mile Challenge will begin at the same venue on the following Tuesday, September 3rd. Further details next week.
Genzyme 5
The annual Genzyme 5-mile road race will take place in Waterford on Friday, August 30th, with a 7pm start. Walkers are welcome also and will start at 6:30pm. Online entry at http://www.runireland.com/ is €12 or you can enter on the night for €15. All proceeds will go to the Waterford branch of MS Ireland.
