Carrick Road Runners Athletic Club, Co. Tipperary, Ireland

COUNTY NOVICE 'B' TITLE FOR TOMMY!

The Tipperary Novice 'B' road championships were held on Sunday last in Moyne and Carrick AC had high hopes for our three-man team of Tommy Falconer, Patrick Roche and Willie Hempenstall, given their good showing in the recent Novice Championships in Clonmel.  The three lads duly delivered the goods with excellent performances to finish in first, third and fourth positions.
The early pace was fast as you would expect over the 6km course and the leaders clocked a 5:28 first mile at which pioint all three Carrick runners were in very prominent positions.  A 5:40 second mile thinned the leading group a little, but at this point it was clear that Carrick AC were on their way to the team gold as our three runners were all in the leading half dozen.  The third mile was clocked at 5:44, and with over 1km to run, Tommy Falconer hit the front.  It was a lead he would not relinquish as he held off all threats and came home in a time of 20:42 to take the gold medal.  This was a great achievement by Tommy and was just reward for the intense training he has put in over the past months.  Patrick Roche rallied again over the final kilometre, having dropped back to fifth place at one point, and showed great determination to secure the individual bronze medal just ten seconds behind Tommy.  Willie Hempenstall made certain of the team goal medals by finishing right behind Pat in fourth position.  Individual gold and bronze plus the team gold - not a bad day's work!  Well done lads from all in the club.
MUNSTER MASTERS MEDALS FOR MARTINA AND BRENDAN
On Sunday week last the Munster Masters road championships were held in Butlerstown, Co. Waterford, over a four mile course.  Carrick AC had two representatives, Martina O'Dwyer and Brendan Cronin and both runners took home a medal.  Martina has been showing great form of late and put in another fantastic performance to finish second overall and first in the Ladies' O-35 category.  Brendan put in a great run also to help the Tipperary team win the team bronze medal in the O-50 category.
