Carrick Road Runners Athletic Club, Co. Tipperary, Ireland

Ballycotton '10'

The annual Ballycotton 10-mile road race has become one of the most popular early-season events in recent years and this year over 2,500 runners took part. The field included many of the top road performers and this was reflected in the fast times recorded by many of the top finishers. The men's race was won in a time of 49:20 by Sergiu Ciobanu (Clonliffe Harriers) while Maria McCambridge (Letterkenny) took the ladies' race in 54:48.
Carrick AC had four representatives on the day with Tommy Falconer our first finisher in 65th place. Tommy clocked an excellent time of 58:49, proving that there is no substitute for hard training. Martina O' Dwyer was our only runner in the ladies' race and put in a fine performance to finish in 64:07. Michael Murphy came home in 64:20 and Tom Egan, who has been running consistently well, clocked 66:26.well done to our four runners.

Fit-4-Life
The Fit-4-Life programme organised each year by the club is geared towards those who wish to start on the road to fitness by enjoying the benefits of a meet 'n train group. This year's programme begins with two introductory evenings (Tuesday 13th and 20th March) when there will be plenty of helpful advice for beginners. An ideal target for all who start is to complete the Champion Kiely 5km run in June. The emphasis will always be on the enjoyment which jogging/running can bring and there is always a very enjoyable social side to our Fit-4-Life evenings. So why not come along to the car-park at the library in Carrick-on-Suir at 7pm on Tuesday and make that start?Just be sure to bring a hi-viz jacket or bib!
