Brian Murphy Wins Anne Valley 5
Carrick AC athlete,Brian Murphy, has been in brilliant form of late and continued his impressive series of results with a convincing win in the 'Anne Valley' 5-mile road race in Dunhill on Saturday last. A field of 414 runners took part in this year's renewal of this popular event.Brian led the way home in a course record time of 25:28 ahead of Sandis Bralitis (West Waterford) and Waterford AC's Frank Quinlan. Carrick's second finisher was Willie Hempenstall who finished in 14th place clocking a time of 29:36. Willie has been recording very good times in the Winter League recently and looks nto be in tip-top shape for the up-coming Tipperary Novice Road championship in two weeks' time.Our next finisher was Raymond Burke who ran very well to finish in 35:34. The ladies' event was won by Mags Kirwan Bolger in a time of 30:22.Carrick's Siobhan Jacob ran a fine race to finish in 49:54.
Supervalu Winter League
This Tuesday, February 14th, sees the final night of this year's SuperValu Winter League.There will be the traditional mass start for the last run so all runners are asked to be at the start for 7 pm. Competition for the top ten places is intense and there should be a very close finish in store. The prize-giving for this year's league will take place in the Strand Bar, Carrick-on-Suir on Friday, 24th February from 9pm.
Tipperary Novice Road Championships
The County Tipperary Novice Road Championships for men and ladies will take place in Clonmel on Sunday, 26th February. These races are open to all runners who have not won this championship or placed in the top three at county senior level in the past.The men's race is over 6km and the ladies' event is over 3km so these races afford an idealopportunity for our Winter League runners to represent Carrick AC at a championship event. Further information can be had from any of the committee members.
