Waterford Half-Marathon
 
A great total of 1,155 runners completed the 13.1 miles of the Waterford Athletics Club half-marathon on Saturday week last. The day was perfect for running and there were many very fast times recorded with Carrick AC athletes putting in some very noteworthy performances.
The men's race was won in a time of 1:07:41 by Gary O' Hanlon (Clonliffe Harriers). In second place came Carrick AC's Brian Murphy who was racing for the first time after a lengthy absence due to injury.Brian ran an incredible time of 1:08:12 which smashed his previous personal best for the half-marathon and augurs well for the coming season.Our second runner to finish was Tommy Falconer who also recorded a Personal best of 1:19:04 and finished in 20th place overall.
The ladies' race went to Gladys Ganiel from North Belfast in a time of 1:17:22.Carrick AC's first lady to finish was Martina O' Dwyer (1:23:53) in fifth place.

Christmas Party
 
Many of the runners who completed the half-marathon made their way to the Comeragh Bar in Carrick that evening for a most enjoyable Christmas 'night out'.There were many tales of mile splits and chip times as well as a few aching limbs, most of which thankfully disappeared when it was time to head for the disco!!
 
Brian is County Champ!
 
Well done to Brian Murphy on another brilliant performance in taking the gold medal at the Tipperary Senior Cross-Country Championships on Sunday last. The Carrick AC team of Brian, Tommy Falconer, Patrick Roche and Andrew Downey finished in fourth position overall.Well done, lads.
 
Goal Mile
 
Don't forget the annual Goal Mile on  Christmas morning at 11am starting at Ormonde Castle, Carrick-on-Suir. This is a great way to warm up for the Christmas dinner. mags Power has once again been very busy organising this event and there will, as usual, be a collection in Carrick on Christmas Eve. If you are willing to help out even for just one hour, please contact any of the committee members so that times can be allocated.         
 
Club Person of the Year 2011   
 
Martina O' Dwyer was named as our club person of the year at the final Winter League run before Christmas on Tuesday last.Club chairman, james Fox, congratulated Martina on her outstanding achievements on the track and on the road over the past year.Martina was presented with the club's trophy and follows in the footsteps of last year's winner, Brian Murphy.  
 
Supervalu Winter League
 
Thanks to all who participated in the first half of this year's SuperValu Winter League and especially those who have helped out with stewarding and timing. We wish everybody a very happy Christmas and look forward to seeing you all again on Tuesday, 3rd January at 7pm in Kildalton College.The club was delighted to present a cheque for €300 to the Solas Centre and Carlow/Kilkenny Home Care Team.This money was raised on the final Winter League run last Tuesday and thanks to all who contributed.
