Brian Murphy Wins Dromana 5

A field of 132 runners lined up in Villierstown on Friday evening last for the annual Dungarvan Leader Dromana 5-mile road race.Ten Carrick athletes made the trip for this very popular race and it was Brian Murphy who once again showed a clean pair of heels to the field with another blistering run (26:24).Brian has been in brilliant form in recent weeks and has established a big lead in the overall series.Waterford AC's Frank Quinlan (26:41) came home second ahead of West Waterford AC's Dzintars Klava (27:15).There were some fine performances from the other Carrick AC runners, with David Waters (28:38) in sixth place, Patrick Roche (29:08) in ninth and Tommy Falconer (29:32) in tenth.Paddy Brunnock put in a fine run to finish in 37:38.
The ladies' race was won by Corinna Walsh (West Waterford) who has a commanding position in the overall series.Carrick AC's Martina O' Dwyer was third lady home in 31:45, while Clare Annan clocked 33:17 and Geraldine Houlihan 40:21.Well done to all our runners.

Dave Fogarty 4-mile race

A record field of 141 took part in the Dave Fogarty 4-mile race in Thurles last Thursday.The men's race was won by Pat Byrne (Tinryland) while the ladies' event went to Siobhan O' Doherty (Borrisokane).Our only representative in this race was Anne Cronin who will be well pleased with her finishing time of 31:25.

Fit-for-Life

Our friends in Clonmel AC have been running a very successful Fit-for-Life programme over recent months.Their Fit-for-Life runners joined our own novices and beginners in Ballyneale last week to run the course for the upcoming Champion Kiely 5k race.This race, run over a fast, flat course, is the ideal opportunity for runners to take part in their first race.Thanks to Niall O' Sullivan for arranging this enjoyable get-together and we hope that it becomes an annual event.

Champion Kiely 5k This Friday

The second race in this year's Outfield Sports Three-Counties Challenge is the Champion Kiely 5k ,sponsored by Mr. Binman, in Ballyneale on this Friday evening with a 7:30pm start.This race has attracted very big fields in recent years and this year promises to see new records set.Entry is €10 and registration will be from 6pm at the parish hall.Chip timing will be used for this race which is run over a very flat, fast course.The race honours the 1904 Olympic champion, Tom Kiely, who won the 'All-Round Championship' (delon)Fi in St. Louis,Missouri.For further details contact Mark (086-1608165) or Alan (051-641826)
