 Munster Masters in Ballyneale

The Munster Masters Road Championships took place in Ballyneale on Sunday last in beautiful sunshine and it proved to be a very successful event for Carrick Roadrunners as host club.Cornelius MacFadden and Jim StJohn had put in a huge amount of work in marking out the course and ensuring that it was well stewarded.
Proceedings got under way when 27 ladies lined up for their championship race over two miles.Needless to say, the pace was extremely fast.First to cross the line was Veronica Colleran (Cork), taking gold in the O/40 category. She was followed by Rhona Lynch (Cork) who secured victory in the O/35 division.Next home was our own club's Martina O' Dwyer, who ran another fantastic race to take the silver medal (O/35) ahead of Corinna Walsh (Waterford). Martina has been in outstanding form of late and will now be looking forward to the Tipperary Senior Championships in a few weeks' time.Teresa Cunningham and Ann Cronin were our other representatives in this race and both put in excellent performances for club and county.
The men's race was run over four miles, with a large field of 80 athletes lining up.Passing by the finish with one full lap to complete, there was a group of runners together at the front. But when the lead car came into view for the final time it was Frank Quinlan (Waterford) who had pulled clear to take gold in the O/35 category.Next home and winner of the O/45 gold medal was John Barrett (Kerry). There was further joy for Carrick Roadrunners when Pat O'Sullivan took the O/45 silver medal with a very strong run.A third medal on the day for Carrick came courtesy of Brendan Cronin who put in a storming run to help Tipperary take the team gold in the O/50 category.Cornelius MacFadden and Andrew Downey also ran very well in the Carrick colours.Well done to all our runners.
The club would especially like to thank Jim and Cornelius and all who helped to make the day such a success.
