FIXTURES
Due to the poor weather conditions in recent weeks all local races and fixtures have been postponed. With a thaw promised this week it is expected to have rescheduled dates available for next week.
In the mean time while training is difficult in these poor conditions start planning your running year, pick a few targets - maybe your first 10K, the Ladies Mini Marathon or the elusive 26.2 mile marathon. The Carrick AC Three Counties Series of Road Races will return in 2010 with the Deadman's 5 miles, the Ballyneale 5k, the Piltown 10K and the popular Rathgormack 5 miles under the Comeragh mountains, set yourself the challenge of a PB on local ground!

 

SUPERVALU WINTER LEAGUE
Weather permitting the Winter League will start up again after this longer Christmas break on Tuesday 19th January at Kildalton College, Piltown at 7pm sharp. Registration from 6:30pm, cost is €2 for club members and €5 for non-members. Don't forget to bring a reflective bib! No bib, no run! Whether you are a seasoned runner, a novice or just getting started, you will be very welcome and sure to enjoy the friendly atmosphere.

 

TONY O CONNELL 4 MILER
After being rescheduled due to the weather a number of times the Tony O Connell 4 miler, traditionally held on St Stephen’s day was held on Sunday 24th January 2010. 158 finished on the day with Sergiu Ciobanu of Clonliffe Harriers the overall winner in a time of 19:10. Pauline Lambe of Tullamore harriers took the ladies prize in a time of 23:17.
Carrick runners showed great promise for 2010 with a good turnout on the day. First over the line for Carrick was Brian Murphy finishing in 7th place (21:01). Well done Brian, other Carrick runners on the day were:
Mark Connolly (24:08), Brendan Cronin (24:15), James Fox (25:09), Seamus Ward (25:38), Andrew O Meara (26:56), Mick O Shea (30:45), Catherine O Donovan (32:12), Anne Cronin (32:32), Geraldine Lynch (38:13)
Winter league regulars John O Meara (28:29), Eamonn O Meara (28:53) & Grainne Brennan (25:59) also ran on the day. Grainne was fourth in the ladies race, making a mark following her recent move up from Junior.

COLLIGAN CUP
Four club runners made the trip to Dungarvan for the Colligan cup last Sunday 24th Jan, a race in the woods where the winner is the runner who finishes closest to their predicted finishing time.
Tommy Faulconer was closest to the predicted time for Carrick, 6 seconds off his predicted time.  Paddy Brunnock, Matt Greene and Brian Roche were also close their predicted times for the course.

SUPER VALU WINTER LEAGUE
The Winter league resumed last Tuesday following the extended Christmas break.  Despite the heavy rain there was a great turnout, everyone anxious to shake off this Christmas pounds and get fit for 2010. The Winter league continues into February in the grounds of Kildalton College, Piltown every Tuesday at 7pm. Reflective bib is compulsory for the run.
