AutoPower Rathgormack '5'
The beautiful village of Rathgormack was the picturesque setting for the fourth race in this year's OutfieldSports.ie Three Counties Challenge on Friday evening last. This ninth renewal of the race attracted a field of 67 runners who enjoyed ideal racing conditions as the forecast rain held off. From the start, Danny Smith from Ballynonty AC made his intentions clear as he took up the running and held a 50-metre lead as the runners completed the short loop around the village before heading out into the country. Danny never showed any sign of relinquishing his advantage and came home a clear winner in a time of 27:34. Carrick AC runner, Aaron O' Donnell, ran a fine race to claim the runner-up prize with a time of 28:33. Seamus Doyle from the Balance Fitness club took third place in 29:46.
In the ladies' race Sally Forristal from St. Joseph's AC continued her very good form with an emphatic win for the second year in a row, finishing in a time of 32:48. Second place went to Sandra Prendergast from West Waterford AC in 33:40 while Carrick AC's Mary Molloy took third place in 35:45.
Carrick AC would like to thank all who helped in organising this year's race and making it such a success. Thanks to all who undertook stewarding duties and who assisted with race registration, timing and results.
