Portlaw 5-mile Race This Friday

The sixth annual O' Neill Pharmacy Tom Jordan Memorial 5-mile road race will be held in Portlaw  on this Friday evening, May 9th, at 7:30pm. This very popular race is the second in this year's OutfieldSports.ie Three Counties Challenge which got underway in Faugheen two weeks ago. The brand new route for this year's race is very fast and flat and runners will have a great opportunity to clock a fast time for the distance. Last year's event was won by Sergiu Ciobanu from Clonliffe Harriers in 24:43 and Dymphna Ryan from Dundrum took the ladies' race in 29:26. There was a great turnout of 245 runners in 2013 and a big entry is again expected on Friday.

The club's spring training programme will continue in Portlaw on this Tuesday at 7pm, meeting at the Forge Bar and giving runners a chance to sample the new route ahead of Friday's race.

The entry fee for the race is €10 and registration will take place in the Heritage Centre, Portlaw, from 6 pm. It is worth noting that all runners who complete four of the five races in this series will receive a Ron Hill voucher for use at Outfield Sports, Carrick-on-Suir. There will be team prizes for both men and ladies as well as all the usual category prizes. Prize-giving and post-race refreshments will be at the Forge Bar where all are assured of a warm welcome from Brian Nugent and the Portlaw Red Cross team. If you are looking for an enjoyable run over a fast five-mile course then Portlaw is the place to be this Friday! For further information contact Alan (051-641826) or Mark (086-1608165).
