SuperValu Winter League 2013

This year's SuperValu Winter League came to an exciting finish on Tuesday evening last with the final 5km run of the series in Kildalton College, Piltown. The fastest time on a very blustery evening was the 18:03 recorded by Pat O' Sullivan and Claire Annan's 18:29 was the fastest time by a lady runner. Long-time league leader, Robert Briscoe, put in another very solid run to finish eleventh on the night in 20:30 and secure the title of Winter League Champion for 2013. Robert showed steady improvement in his times over the ten weeks of the league and finished with an impressive total of 108 points. Pat Walsh's run on Tuesday saw him leap from fourth position in the league to second while third place overall went to Jeffrey Brophy. The top ten finishers in this year's league were:
1. Robert Briscoe (108 Points)    2. Pat Walsh  (155)     3.  Jeffrey Brophy  (157)    4. Cian Power  (173)   5. Donal O' Brien  (195)     6. Glen Conway  (209)      7.= Brid Skehan and Clifford Melbourne  (216)    9.Josephine O' Dwyer  (230)    10. Gemma Fitzpatrick  (239)

The top ten points scorers were presented with their prizes by PJ Guinan, representing SuperValu, Carrick-on-Suir, at the club's Christmas party in the Comeragh Bar on Saturday evening. Carrick Roadrunners would like to thank SuperValu for their continued generous support of this very popular league. We are also very grateful to Kildalton College, Piltown, for the use of their grounds and facilities. Finally, a very big thank-you to all who assisted with registration, timing and stewarding during the league. Full results and overall league standings are available on the club website http://www.carrickroadrunners.ie/ where you can also keep up to date with club news and upcoming events.

Goal Mile on Christmas Day

The annual Goal Mile has become a well-established part of the Christmas festivities and this year's renewal will start as usual from Ormonde Castle, Carrick-on-Suir, at 11am on Christmas morning. What better way to work up an appetite for Christmas dinner than to run, jog or walk the one-mile course around the town in aid of such a worthy cause? Santa Claus will be in attendance before he returns to the North Pole and there will be mulled wine and chocolates for all at the finish line.

All-Ireland Novice Cross-Country

Best wishes from all in the club to Brian Murphy, Patrick Roche and Martina O' Dwyer who will compete in the national Novices Cross-Country Championships at Carriganore this weekend. All three Carrick AC runners have been selected for the Tipperary county team.
