Martina Wins International Silver

 
On Saturday week last Carrick AC athlete, Martina O' Dwyer, travelled as part of the Irish team to Bute Park in Cardiff for the British and Irish Masters' Cross-Country Championships. Martina is the first Carrick Roadrunners member to represent Ireland and was joined on the ladies' team by Natasha Adams and Annette Quaid. Martina put in a superb effort to finish in 17th position overall and secured the vital points to give Ireland the silver team medals. All in the club congratulate Martina on her selection for the team and her wonderful achievement.
 
Irish Senior Cross-Country
 
Patrick Roche was a member of the Tipperary team at the Irish Senior Cross-Country Championships in Santry last Sunday. As usual, Patrick gave 100 per cent in finishing 115th in a very large field. This experience at the highest national level will stand Patrick in good stead with the county cross-country championships in mind.   
 
Gowran 10-miles
 
Tommy Falconer recorded a time of 62:25 when he finished in sixteenth place at the 'Stook' 10---mile road race in Gowran on Sunday last. He also had the third-fastest time for the downhill 'Flying Mile' at nine miles (4:54).
 
SuperValu Winter League - Week 7
 
Eighty runners completed the 5km course in Kildalton College, Piltown, on Tuesday evening last as the 2013 SuperValu Winter League enters its final few weeks. John Paul Mackey and Penny Alvarez were the first two finishers on the night. The fastest  time recorded was Andrew Downey's 17:19, just ahead of Tommy Falconer's 17:24. Mary Molloy was fastest of the ladies, clocking 20:16. The leading pointscorers after seven weeks are as follows:
  
1. Jeff Brophy 192 pts      2.  Robert Briscoe 209 pts   3. Cian Power 218 pts    4. Gemma Fitzpatrick  256 pts     5.  Liam Rockett  277 pts.
 
With runners only needing to count their best 8 runs, the leaderboard is sure to see some changes over the remaining weeks. Runners are reminded to always run on the right hand side of the college avenue and to consider that drivers must be aware of runners on both sides. Please run in single file when there is traffic on the avenue and be conscious of safety at all times.
