MorrisOil Piltown 10k This Friday

The fifth and final race in this year's Outfieldsports.ie Three Counties Challenge will take place on Friday next, August 2nd, with the sixth annual running of the Morris Oil Piltown 10k in County Kilkenny. The race will start on the grounds of Kildalton Horticultural College, Piltown, at 7:30pm and takes in the scenic college grounds and some quiet country roads before finishing in Piltown GAA Club grounds. The race route is fast and provides runners with a great opportunity to achieve a personal best time for the 10k distance. Last year's race was won by Philip Harty (Donore Harriers) in 31:50 while Siobhan Doherty (Borrisokane) took the ladies' race in 36:00. Race entry is €10 and entries will be taken from 6pm in Piltown GAA Club. Online entry is also available on http://www.runireland.com/ . There will be prizes in all of the usual categories as well as a goody bag for all runners on the night. Runners who complete four of the five races in this year's Challenge will receive a €25 voucher for Adidas Technical running shoes which can be used at series sponsor, OutfieldSports, Carrick-on-Suir. Parking and changing/shower facilities will be available in Piltown GAA Club and prize-giving and post-race refreshments will also be held in the club's complex.

Ballymacarbry 5-mile race

The annual Ballymacarbry 5-mile race took place on Friday last and 133 athletes lined up for the penultimate race in the summer series organised by West Waterford AC. The race was won by Raivis Zakis from the host club in 26:04. Carrick AC's Brian Murphy ran a fine race to finish in second place with a time of 26:39. Brian's brother, Michael, also had a great run to finish in eleventh place, clocking 30:20. Geraldine Houlihan was our club's only representative in the ladies' race and she finished in a time of 43:32. Well done to our three runners.

Sympathy

Carrick AC extends sincere sympathy to the family and friends of the late Joe Grinsell. Joe had run with the original Carrick Athletics Club in the 1970s and 80s and was a very active member of Clonmel AC, participating in all of the local road races. He will be sadly missed by all in the running community. May he rest in peace.
