Great Performances at Viking Marathon

 
Well done to the Carrick AC members who took part in the second annual Waterford Viking Marathon, Half-Marathon and Marathon Relay on Saturday last. In the Marathon, there was a superb performance from Derek Walsh, who clocked a time of 2:57:38, finishing in sixth place. The 'Lightning Strikes' relay team was made up of three Carrick AC runners, Tommy Falconer, Patrick Roche and Martina O' Dwyer along with Diane Behan (Waterford AC). The team stormed to a great victory, coming home well clear in an aggregate time of 2:44:02. In the half-marathon, Brian Murphy made a welcome and very impressive return to racing when he took third place in a time of 1:15:07. Helen Doody Gorbatyuk and Lisa Bartley also took on the 13.1 mile distance and came home in 1:47:42 and 2:06:05 respectively. Well done to all the Carrick AC participants.   
 
AutoPower Rathgormack '5'
 
The AutoPower Rathgormack 5 mile road race will this year form the fourth and penultimate leg of the OutfieldSports.ie Three Counties Challenge. This five-race series has proved to be hugely popular with all runners this year. After very successful races in Faugheen, Portlaw and Carrick-on-Suir, the action will move to County Waterford and the picturesque village of Rathgormack on Friday, July 12th with the race starting at 7:30 pm. Entry costs €10 and registration will take place at the Hiking Centre, Rathgormack, from 6pm. Alternatively, you can register online at http://www.runireland.com/ . This race has a full AAI permit and will be the ideal preparation for the final race in the series, the MorrisOil 10k in Piltown.  There will be prizes in all of the usual categories as well as team prizes for men and ladies. Prize-giving and refreshments will be at the Hiking Centre afterwards. Last year's men's race was won by Sandis Bralitis (West Waterford) in a time of 25:46 while Clonmel AC's Angela McCann took the ladies' race in 29:48. Champion Kiely Ballyneale 5k
 
A field of 203 runners lined up for the annual Champion Kiely Ballyneale 5k race on Friday last. The men's race was won by Brian Maher (KCH) in a time of 14:38 while the ladies' first prize went to Angela McCann (Clonmel AC) in 17:59. Carrick AC's first finisher was Andrew Downey (17:39). Emer O' Brien (22:06) was our first lady finisher and won first prize in the O/40 category. Maura O' Neill (23:00) won the ladies' O/50 prize. Well done to the many Carrick AC runners who took part.
