Portlaw 5-mile This Friday

The fifth annual O' Neill Pharmacy Tom Jordan 5-mile road race will take place in Portlaw on this Friday evening, May 10th, at 7:30 pm. This popular race is the second in the 2013 OutfieldSports.ie Three Counties Challenge which got underway in spectacular fashion in Faugheen two weeks ago.The route for Friday's race is accurately measured and very flat with the  promise of some very fast times. Philip Harty (Donore Harriers) has been victorious for the past two years in the men's race and last year he clocked an impressive 25:38 while Sylvia Malone (Waterford AC) took the ladies' race in 30:07. A total of 172 runners completed the course in 2012 and it is confidently predicted that this figure will be exceeded on Friday as this race goes from strength to strength each year. The entry fee for the race is €10 and registration will take place at the Heritage Centre, Portlaw, from 6pm. Online entry can be completed at http://www.runireland.com/ up to Thursday. It is worth noting that all athletes who complete four of the five races in this summer's series will receive a €25 voucher for Adidas running shoes at Outfield Sports, Carrick-on-Suir. Age category prizes will be for the first home in men's O/40, O/45, O/50, O/55 and O/60 and in the ladies' O/35, O/40, O/45, O/50 and O/55. There will also be prizes for the first male and female Junior (u/19) runners. Prize-giving and post-race refreshments will be at the Forge Bar where all runners are assured of a very warm welcome from Brian Nugent and the Portlaw Red Cross team. If you are looking for an enjoyable run over a fast 5-mile course with a warm, friendly atmosphere then Portlaw is the place to be this Friday!
