SuperValu Winter League
 
The winter league is really into full swing right now and the fourth of this year's ten runs over 5km took place in Kildalton College last Tuesday evening. The weather has so far been very kind to the athletes and conditions were just about perfect for  running. Some very good performances were recorded with the fastest time being Patrick Roche's 16:22. Martina O' Dwyer was again quickest of the ladies with a time of 17:42. The top points scorers on the night were :  1. John Riordan  2. Tommy Cuddihy  3. Liam Knox  4. Robert Brisacoe  5. Cian Power  6. Sandra Kerwick  7. Colin Wheatley  8. Corwun O' Brien  9. Eamonn Power  10.Eileen Skelly. The winner of the league will be the runner with the lowest overall points total with each athlete's eight best scores counting. After four weeks, the league table is headed by Liam Rockett on 136 points ahead of Eamonn Power (143) and Kevin Freaney (148). Each week's results and points scored can be viewed on the club website http://www.carrickroadrunners.ie/. Runners can also see their starting time for next week - remember that the clock will be started at 7 pm sharp and the first group of runners begin after two minutes with the fastest group commencing after 22 minutes. When running, please ensure that you wear a hi-viz bib/top and that your number is clearly visible to the finish-line stewards. 
 
Dublin City Marathon
 
Well done to all who participated in last Monday's Dublin City Marathon which saw a record entry of over 14,000 runners.Carrick AC was well represented on the day and it was Brian Murphy who led the team home with another outstanding performance. Brian finished in twenty-sixth position overall in a superb time of 2h 32m 06sec. Our second finisher was Derek Walsh who comfortably broke the three-hour barrier with a time of 2:56:04. Michael O' Connell and Andrew Downey put in great runs to finish in 3:00:16 and 3:02:23 respectively. Michael O' Sullivan took no less than fifteen minutes off his previous best time when coming home in 3:10:57. Seamus Ward came home strongly in 3:15:40 and Mark Connolly finished in 3:18:00. Melanie Ward and Lisa Bartley represented the club's ladies and both ran very well - Melanie finished in 4:32:27 and Lisa in 4:43:44. A well-deserved rest is now in order for all our marathoners.
 
Tipperary Intermediate Cross-Country
 
The Tipperary Intermediate Cross-Country Championships were held in Two-Mile-Borris on Sunday last. Patrick Roche was the club's only entrant and put in a very strong run to finish in seventh place behind the winner, Kevin Moore (Dundrum AC).
