SuperValu Winter League

The 2012 SuperValu Winter League got underway at Kildalton College,Piltown on Tuesday evening last in ideal running conditions. After the 'mass start', ninety-one runners completed the 5km route on the college grounds. In-form Carrick AC runner, Patrick Roche, led the way home in a time of 16:42 with David Kenneally (17:01) and Sean Murphy (17:28) chasing him home. The first lady to finish was Claire Annan (18:17) ahead of Mary Molloy (20:48) and Emer O' Brien (22:54). This week's run will see the runners go off at two-minute intervals with the fastest runners starting in the final group. Using this handicap system should see the whole field of runners finish in or around the same time while also benefiting from running alongside athletes of a similar ability. All runners can view their finishing time from last week and their all-important starting time for Week 2 on the club website, http://www.carrickroadrunners.ie/. The clock will start at 7pm and the first group will start running when the clock shows 2 minutes. The second group will begin at 4 minutes and so on.Any runner who did not take part in last week's run should start with the 10 minute group and will be assigned a new starting time for next week.
It is very important that all participants wear a hi-viz bib/top and run on the right-hand side of the avenue.

Cork to Cobh '15'

The annual Cork to Cobh 15-mile race has become a favourite warm-up event for runners who intend tackling the Dublin City Marathon over the October bank Holiday weekend. Two of our long-distance athletes made the journey to Cork last Sunday week and were rewarded with fine performances. Michael O' Sullivan clocked a time of 1:45:10 and was closely followed by Seamus Ward in 1:45:52. Both runners can now look forward confidently to the 'big one' in Dublin on Monday week next.
