Tom Jordan Memorial '5' in Portlaw

 
The annual Tom Jordan Memorial 5-mile road race in Portlaw has quickly established itself as one of the most popular local races. This year's renewal saw a record turnout of 175 runners on Friday evening last as well as a great community response to the walk which preceded the race. In the men's race there was a great win for the in-form Donore Harriers runner, Philip Harty, who came home in a time of 25:38. Philip was followed over the line by Niall Sheil (St. Killians) who clocked 25:59 and third place went to West Waterford AC's Frank Quinlan in 26:08.Carrick AC's first finisher was Patrick Roche in a time of 28:37. Tommy Falconer was our next man home in 28:57 while Brendan Cronin took first place in the men's O/50 category with a time of 30:31. There was a fantastic finish to the ladies' race with only thirteen seconds between the first and third finishers.It was Sylvia Malone (Waterford AC) who proved strongest on the run to the line recording a fast time of 30:07.Jackie Carthy (Kilmore AC) took second place in 30:17 with Carrick AC's Martina O' Dwyer running yet another fine race to finish third in 30:20. Claire Annan, also Carrick AC, was the fourth lady to finish (31:06).

Clonmel 10k
 
A huge field of 355 athletes lined up in quite blustery conditions for the Annerville 10k in Clonmel on Sunday last. Sandis Bralitis (West Waterford AC) took victory in the men's race ,finishing in 32:09. Siobhan Doherty (Borrisokane) clocked 36:45 in winning the ladies' race. Carrick AC's Willie Hempenstall took first prize in the O/40 category with a time of 36:20 while Brendan Cronin was second O/50 finisher in 39:21. James Fox (39:55), Michael O' Connell (42:21) and Andrew Downey (43:32) all enjoyed good runs also. Our only representative in the ladies' event was Ann Cronin who took second place in the O/45 category with a time of 51:22. Well done to all our runners.
 
Chi Running

Fit-4-Life
 
The Fit-4-life training groups will meet at the Hiking Centre in Rathgormack on this Tuesday evening (May 15th) at 7pm for a jog round the route of the Rathgormack '5'. All are welcome.
