County 10-mile Championships

 
The Tipperary County 10-mile road championships were held in Ballynonty on Wednesday last and Carrick AC had another very successful evening. Brian Murphy had taken the men's title last year in Poulmucka and was in no mood to relinquish it. Brian's form has been outstanding recently and he came home a very clear winner in a personal best time of  53:22. Danny Smith (Ballynonty) took the silver medal in 56:41 with Christopher Bracken (Thurles Crokes) in the bronze medal position. There were two further golds for Carrick athletes on the night.Brendan Cronin had an excellent run to finish in 64:54 and won the O/50 category. There were also good runs in the men's event from Mark Connolly (69:15) and Seamus Ward (69:35) .Our only representative in the ladies' race was  Theresa Cunningham who finished in fourth place overall and took the gold medal in the O/40's category with a personal best of 73:43. To cap off a great evening, the Carrick AC men's team of Brian Murphy, David Waters (12th), Tommy Falconer (15th) and Brendan Cronin (21st) took the bronze medal. Well done to all our runners.
 
Ardmore '5'
 
The final race in the 10-race summer series organised by West Waterford AC was the Ardmore 5-mile road race on Friday evening last. Victory in the men's race went to Frank Quinlan (Waterford AC) in 26:20 ahead of Paul Deegan (Gowran AC) and Conor Rochford (St. Senan's). First Carrick AC athlete to finish was David Waters in ninth place, clocking 28:38. Patrick Roche (28:44) came home in 11th place while Tommy Falconer was 15th in 29:02. Michael O' Connell and Paddy Brunnock also put in fine performances, registering times of 30:03 and 35:35 respectively.    
 
Woodstown 5
 
The annual Alan Everett Woodstown 5 mile race took place on Saturday last and Carrick AC's Martina O' Dwyer won the ladies' race in a time of 31:43. Patrick Roche showed no ill-effects from the previous evening's exertions in Ardmore when taking fourth place in the men's race. Martina also finished second in a graded track 800m at the Cork Institute of Technology on Thursday, recording a new personal best time of 2:24 for the two-lap race.
