The Annevalley five-mile road race took place in Dunhill on Saturday last. This race is one of the most popular early-season events and a field of 377 runners lined up.Eight Carrick AC athletes made the journey and were rewarded with some very impressive results.Martina O' Dwyer continued her excellent form when taking second place in the ladies' race in a time of 31:17,just two seconds behind the winner,Niamh Richardson (Kilkenny City Harriers).Ger Houlihan and Sandra O'Neill will also be pleased with their runs, finishing in 40:13 and 46:15 respectively.
In the men's race, Patrick Roche clocked 29:38 in finishing sixth with Tommy Falconer only two places behind in 29:53.Paddy Kerwick (34:15), Gordon Collins (37:20) and Raymond Burke (38:22) all ran very well and no doubt we will see some of these runners in action again next Sunday in the Kilmacthomas '5'.
