County Cross-Country Medals
Dundrum was the venue for the County Senior Cross-Country Championships on Sunday last and the heavy rain over the weekend meant that underfoot conditions were extremely testing.This did not deter seven of our club's athletes and all were rewarded with medals.Our own Brian Murphy and Tony Fogarty of Thurles Crokes have had some titanic battles this year and the pair again battled it out for gold over a demanding 10km course.It was Tony who again proved just the stronger over the last lap and completed a brilliant clean sweep of gold medals at Novice,Intermediate and Senior levels.Brian has now taken silver in all three - a major achievement in his first season of cross-country running.Shane Mullaney (Thurles Crokes) took the bronze medal.
Carrick's next finisher was Daragh Byrne in an excellent 16th place.Mark Connolly was our third man home and it was Patrick Roche,making his cross-country debut, who secured the all-important team points to earn our team the bronze medals.The medal haul did not end there, however, as our next three finishers won bronze in the 'B' team category.They were led home by the ever-reliable Brendan Cronin, with James Fox and Andrew Downey completing our second medal-winning team.Well done to all of our runners.
Supervalu Winter League
Our Winter League is now well under way and 72 runners participated in last week's run. All of these runners will now be grouped according to their times as the handicap system is applied. The results from week 1 are in the Results section of the website, (or click here http://www.carrickroadrunners.ie/content/view/163/40/) along with the start times for this week. Remember , it is not too late to register for the league as there will be ten more weeks of running!
