AutoPower Rathgormack '5'

The picturesque village of Rathgormack in County Waterford was the setting for the annual AutoPower Rathgormack 5-mile road race on Friday evening last. This race was the fourth in the 2017 Outfield Sports Three Counties Challenge. Conditions were ideal for the runners who lined up for the eleventh renewal of this race. As the field entered the village after the completion of one mile it was Noel Murphy (Waterford AC) and Alban Coughlan (Crusaders AC) who had opened up a lead with Derek Walsh (Carrick AC) in third place. Noel ran very strongly over the hilly section of the course to open a gap on Alban and he came home a clear winner in 27:08. Alban maintained his form all the way to finish just 20 seconds behind and Derek was a clear third in 27:55. Kate Veale (West Waterford AC) had a very comfortable victory in the ladies' race, coming home in a time of 33:04. Carrick AC's Mary Molloy took second place in 36:20 with Elaine Horgan (Clonmel AC) third in 36:41. Carrick AC would like to thank the Brunnock family and all who assisted in the organisation of this year's event. Thanks to all who undertook stewarding duties and who helped with registration, timing and results. Thanks also to our friends in Carrick-on-Suir Red Cross for once again providing medical back-up. The club is especially grateful to AutoPower, Rathgormack for the continued generous sponsorship of the race and to Outfield Sports, Carrick-on-Suir for sponsorship of the overall series. The 2017 series will conclude with the Iverk Produce Piltown 10k race on Friday, 28th July. The race will start on the grounds of Kildalton Horticultural College at 7:30pm. Race registration will be in Piltown GAA Club from 6pm.
