Faugheen 5k On Friday

The annual Faugheen 5km road race on Friday evening next, 21st April, marks the start of this year's Outfield Sports Three-Counties Challenge. This first race in the five-race series organized by Carrick AC is again kindly sponsored by Fitzgerald Fleming Long Accountants, Carrick-on-Suir. The accurately measured race route is particularly flat and affords runners an ideal opportunity to set a personal best time over the 5km distance. Registration for the race (€10 entry) will be in the Faugheen parish hall (beside the church) from 6 pm and runners can avail of a discounted entry to the full series also.  There will be prizes for the first three finishers in both the men's and ladies' races as well as the usual category and team prizes and the Gerry Moran Perpetual Cup will be presented to the race winner. Last year's winners were Niall Sheil (St. Killians AC) and Sylvia Malone (Waterford AC) in times of 15:45 and 18:13 respectively. The race has a full AAI permit and will start at 7:30pm just outside the village. Prize-giving and refreshments will be in Flemings Bar immediately after the race. The series will continue with three 5-mile races in Portlaw, Carrick-on-Suir and Rathgormack before concluding with the annual Piltown 10k on Friday, 28th July. This gives novice and beginner runners the chance to move up from 5k to 10k distance over the summer months as part of a single series. For further information contact Mark (086-1608165) or Alan (051-641826).
