The annual 10-mile road race in Ballycotton, Co. Cork, one of the most popular races in the country, saw a field of almost 3,000 runners line up to tackle the classic distance on Sunday last. Mick Clohessy (Raheny Shamrocks) took the men's race in a time of 49:20. Siobhan O' Doherty (Borrisokane) was a clear winner of the ladies' race in 58:09. Carrick AC's first finisher on the day was Miguel Ponce de Leon in 1:14:02 with Mark Connolly (1:14:13) and Brian Graham (1:14:15) just behind. Our ladies were led home by Deirdre Walsh in 1:27:06, followed closely by Maura O' Neill (1:28:07) and Ann Cronin (1:4121).. Ber Glascott came home in 1:48:51 and Susan Collins finished in 2:01:37. A special word of thanks to our running coach, James Sullivan, who provided some invaluable motivation and advice on the day. Well done to all our runners.

Leinster and National Indoors

Well done to Patrick Roche, one of the busiest runners in our club, who competed in the Leinster Indoor Championships at the National Sports Arena recently. Patrick clocked 10:00 for the 3,000 metres race. He then competed in the National Masters Indoors Championships, clocking a time of 10:15 to finish fifth in his heat. It is great to see our club being represented at these prestigious events on the indoor track and all in the club wish Patrick the best of luck on the outdoor track and on the road later in the year.

Geraldine Goes International!

Carrick AC's Geraldine Houlihan is a regular competitor on the road race circuit here at home but she recently competed in the full marathon at Stuart, Florida, USA and finished in a time of 5:31:00. Well done from everyone in the club and keep up the great running, Geraldine.

Bronze for Derek Walsh at County Novice

At the recent County Tipperary Novice Road Championships held in Moyne there was a great performance from Carrick AC's Derek Walsh. Derek took third place in a time of 19:37 behind Michael Carey (Clonmel AC) and William Stephens (Coolquill AC) and came home with a well-deserved bronze medal. Well done also to the other team members on the day - Patrick Roche, Tom Egan and Barry Torpey. All in the club wish Derek well as he prepares for the Manchester Marathon on 2nd April.
