Carraig Hotel Deadman's 5 This Friday

The sixth annual Carraig Hotel Deadman's 5-mile road race will start from the historic Ormonde Castle in Carrick-on-Suir on this Friday, June 29th, at 7:30pm sharp. This hugely popular race has gone from strength to strength over the past six years and will this year form the second leg of the Outfield Sports Three-Counties Challenge, a series of four races over distances from 5k to 10k. The race route takes in a circuit of the town over the first mile before heading out into the country. The runners will then tackle the 'Deadman's Boreen' between miles two and three. The race will then re-enter the town and finish beside the Town Park. The course, with its fast, flat finish is certainly one over which a personal best time can be achieved. Last year's race was won by Carrick AC's Brian Murphy in 25:35 while Siobhan O' Doherty (Borrisokane)  took the ladies' race in 28:09.

Registration for this year's race (entry €10) will take place at the Swan GAA club centre (behind the Garda Barracks) from 6pm. Runners are advised to register in good time as the race must start at 7:30pm sharp due to the crossing of the railway line after one mile. You can also pre-register online on http://www.runireland.con/ up to this Thursday.  Changing and shower facilities will be available at the Swan Clubhouse and the all-important post-race refreshments and prize-giving will take place at the Carraig Hotel on Main Street.

Race Results

At the recent Michael Cahill 5k race in Ballingarry, Carrick AC was represented in the men's race by Brendan Cronin who took second place in the O/50 category with a fine time of 18:37. Ann Cronin was our only other runner on the evening and had a very good run also, crossing the line in 23:50. The West Waterford AC summer series' most recent event was the annual Ras na Rinne where Carrick AC's Theresa Cunningham put in a really strong run to be the third lady finisher. Theresa's time was 41:11.
Well done to all our runners.
