Carrick Road Runners Athletic Club Notes 13th August 2007

Perfect weather conditions were the order of the day as 105 runners went to the line last Sunday in Carrick-on-Suir for the 2nd annual Carraig Hotel Deadman’s 5. There was great excitement as this race would decide the destination of the prizes in the overall summer series as well. As with both Ballyneale and Rathgormack the eventual men’s winner lead from gun to tape with some impressive running. West Waterford’s Raivis Zakis certainly was the man of the moment who beat his own best time by 5 seconds over this testing course to win the race impressively. Raivis won both of the other league races and this one was never really in doubt.

Equally impressive on the day was St. Senan’s Adele Walsh who has really shown some fine form over our 3 race series and as with Raivis, she took the top honours in all three of the races with some impressive times. Adele’s time of 31.18 is a ladies course record and will be tough to beat! Josephine Killeen of Kilmurray Ibrickane AC and Mary Bourke Waterford AC were in close attention all the way and made sure Adele had to work for her victory. Adele’s win kept her at the top of the leader board in the ladies Summer series.

A Big Thank You!
This race would never had happened if it was not for the support and hard work of the following people. Our main sponsors The Carraig Hotel, Main St., Carrick-on-Suir. Post Race Refreshments and prize presentations also took place in the Carraig. Our overall series sponsors Outfield Sports, Carrick-on-Suir and Asics. Tipperary Natural mineral water for our post race water. We also would like the thank the Gardai, the Irish Red Cross and Carrick-on-Suir Town Council. There was great work also done by the people on registration as well as all stewards on the road most of whom were local volunteers. A particular mention must go to Keith O’Shea who produced the results so fast and efficiently, as well as our ever dependable time keeper, famous cyclist, Bobby Power. Thanks to Paddy Brunnock for producing the league tables. Thanks to Mayor David Shee for getting the run under way officially.

Thanks to all the clubs who traveled from far and wide to support this event. Thanks also the volunteers, supporters, committee members and injured runners of our own club who also helped out on the day. Thanks also to the Swan Club for the use of their fine facilities for registration and changing.

Full results of the Outfield Sports/ Asics Summer Series will be available next week. Due to a slight technical hitch on the day some of the league results were not 100% accurate (blame the PRO-lets just say, the more haste, the less speed)!

Don’t forget 2 big races coming up next Friday 17th August, Ardmore 5, 7:30 p.m. and Sunday 19th August, Coolquill 5k, 2.30 p.m.

Also watch this space for details on our September 1 mile series on its way from the first Tuesday in September. Walk, jog or run a mile!
